The Education Ministry is planning to hold the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations in April from the next year, restoring its previous exam schedule.
The HSC exams previously began in April each year, but the coronavirus pandemic caused disruption in academic activities and exams schedule for the last four years.
The authorities concerned had arranged the HSC exams for four years (2020 to 2024), delaying the previous schedule with a shorter version of syllabus during the period, according to examination and education boards’ coordination committee.
The head of the coordination committee and Chairman of Dhaka Education Board, Prof Tapan Kumar Sarkar, told the reporters that the HSC exams used to start in the first week of April every year, but it was not possible to hold the exams as per the schedule due to Corona.
“Now we are mulling over holding of the HSC exams in April from the next year,” he said.
The officials of the education boards also think that as the country witnesses heavy rain during monsoon (June and July) and so, these two months are not suitable for public exams.
This year’s HSC and equivalent exams will begin across the country today. All the coaching centres will be closed for 44 days until August 11.
The education ministry at a recent meeting took the decision in this regard to prevent question paper leaks and create an atmosphere congenial for the exams.
