The Dhaka Education Board has announced that candidates of the HSC Examination 2024 will get a refund for six subjects that were canceled. The decision comes after a student movement against discrimination. A notification was published on the Education Board’s website on Tuesday, confirming the refund process.
The board had declared the cancellation of the postponed HSC exams on August 20. Following this, in the 192nd meeting of the Inter-Education Board Examination Control Committee held on September 18, it was decided to return the fees collected for the cancelled subjects.
According to the notification, the refund includes the unspent part of the money collected for assessing each paper, as well as the practical examination fees for the canceled subjects. However, candidates will not receive refunds for the subjects for which exams were already held.
The refund process will be handled through the candidates’ educational institutions. The board will send the money to the respective institutions, and the students will collect their refund from there.
It was also mentioned that 10 percent of the amount collected for the centre fee will be deducted. The remaining amount will be given to the centers, and students will get the rest of their fees back through their institutions.
This refund decision is expected to ease the financial burden on students and their families, especially in the wake of the cancellation of several exams.
The Education Board has asked the concerned institutions to cooperate in ensuring a smooth and quick refund process for all eligible candidates.
