Bangladesh's cricket team has touched down in the United States, ready to participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Before diving into the tournament, the Tigers will sharpen their claws in a three-match T20 series against the USA.
While the primary objective is to refine their skills and adjust to the American environment, Bangladesh is carrying the weight of high expectations on their shoulders. The team's stars departed brimming with confidence, vowing to leave it all on the field. Pacer and vice-captain Taskin Ahmed requested the nation's prayers for success.
However, one player's aspirations soar even higher. Youngster Towhid Hridoy doesn't just want to perform well - he dreams of bringing home the coveted World Cup trophy. In a video released by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday, Hridoy expressed his unwavering ambition.
“This is a massive opportunity for me,” Hridoy declared. “I want to make my mark on the World Cup stage, not just contribute, but go all the way and win the entire thing. This isn't just my dream; it's the dream of the entire team.”
This marks Hridoy's maiden T20 World Cup appearance. Notably, he emerged as a beacon of hope with his impressive batting during the recent Zimbabwe series, a time when other batsmen faltered.
Expectations now rest on Hridoy’s shoulders to replicate his heroics in the World Cup. Bangladesh's campaign kicks off on June 8th against Sri Lanka in Dallas, USA, even though the tournament officially commences on June 2nd.
Their journey continues with a clash against South Africa in New York on June 10th. Later, they'll face off against Netherlands and Nepal on June 13th and 17th, respectively, with both matches scheduled for Kingstown, West Indies.
Only the top two teams from each group will advance to the prestigious Super Eight stage.
