Houses ready for distribution among homeless in Ishwardi

On the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, 50 homeless and landless families of Baharpur village in Ishwardi upazila are getting keys new semi-pucca houses as gifts given by the Prime Minister. Some of the distressed are widows, some of them are divorced and some of them make a living by begging. 

A total of 53,340 distressed families across the country are getting houses under Ashrayan-2 project. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday will inaugurate the house distribution ceremony via video conference from Bangabhaban. 

The list includes 50 landless families of Baharpur village in Ishwardi. The keys of the new house along with the land deeds will be officially handed over to each of the 50 families in a ceremony held at the Upazila Conference Room after the inauguration ceremony. Ishwardi UNO Imrul Kayes confirmed the matter to Bangladesh Post on Saturday.

The people who will receive new houses according to the upazila administration lists are Rubel Hossain, Chameli Beguma, Shilpi Khatun, Risha Khatun, Azim Hossain, Mozidul Islam, Md Fazlu, Farid Ali, Nurjahan begum, Sajib Khandokar, Majesa Khatun, Papia Khatun, Momtaj begum, Rohima Begum, Shafikul Islam, Sakina Khatun, Mim Khatun, Mijanur Rahman, Ibrahim Kha, Majeda Begum, Bebi Khatun, Shikha Rani, Ibrahim Kha, Shofi bepari, Mojibor, Shah Alam, Tarek Sheikh, Parveen Khatun, Akbor Ali, Abul Kalam, Shefali Begum, Abdus Salam, Nurunnahar begum, Sakhina Khatun, Shampa Khatun, Rikta Begum, Shirina Akter, Safek Ali, Rokeya begum, Selina Khatun, Jiarul Hakim, Mrs Labni, Beli Khatun and Goutam Kumar. 6 other people will also receive houses at the programme. 

UNO Imrul Kayes said that Pabna Deputy Commissioner Kabir Mahmud, Ishwardi upazila chairman Nayeb Ali Bishwas, vice chairman Abdus Salam Khan, and other departmental heads will be present at the programme. 

Upazila Project Implementation Officer Touhidul Islam said that the semi-pucca house, built at a cost of Tk 1.9 lakh on two decimal government khas land, has two bedrooms, a kitchen and toilet, electricity, water and other facilities. These homeless families have been made land and house owners by deed of two decimal land including new houses. A total of Tk 95 lakh has been spent on the construction of 50 houses.

 50 distressed families earlier received houses under phase one of this project.

UNO Imrul Kayes said that by the sheer dedication of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has arranged this gift for homeless distressed families across the country. Now these families has roof on their heads and a less things to worry about. Prime Minister has assured that eventually all homeless people in the country will get houses. 

Upon asking, UNO Imrul Kayes said that work progress has been smooth till now. No complaints of irregularities have been raised in Ishwardi yet. If any sorts of irregularities are found, authorities will take immediate action regarding the issue.
