Local and foreign tourists have thronged the Cox’s Bazar beach during the Eid holidays despite ignoring the hostile weather. Tourists are wandering around the tourist centers in Cox’s Bazar including the beach.
Special measures have been taken for the safety of the tourists. Many tourists have complained of overcharging in hotels. A round-the-clock mobile court operation led by a magistrate from the district administration is being carried out.
Tourism, which had been in limbo for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, has returned to life during the Eid holidays.
Nayan Shah, a tourist from Dumuria in Khulna, said that he had been confined at home with his family for a long time.
“As the incidence of coronavirus has declined, I decided to visit Cox's Bazar the day after Eid. I am happy to be here with my family members after a long time,” he said.
Tourist businessman Neshar Ahmed said that tourists who could not come to Cox’s Bazar for the last two years have now flocked to the beach. Apart from the local tourists, some foreign tourists have also been seen on the beach.
Abul Kashem Sikder, President of Cox's Bazar Hotel Motel Guest House Owners' Association, said, “More than five hundred hotels, motels and guest houses in Cox's Bazar are doing good business. We have suffered a lot in the last two years due to the pandemic. If the influx of tourists continues, we will be able to make up for this loss.”
Md Rezaul Karim, Additional Superintendent of Tourist Police in Cox's Bazar, said that extra security measures have been taken for the safety of tourists.
“Before arrival of tourists in Cox's Bazar, the personnel of the tourist police are leaving for all the tourist spots including the bus terminal. Complaint centers have been opened at various points on the beach. Tourists can complain here if they face any harassment. And we have a special team to take action as soon as we receive a complaint,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar Md Mamunur Rashid said that special arrangements have been made from the tourist cell to see all the issues of the tourists who will come to Cox's Bazar.
“Mobile court operations headed by several executive magistrates are being carried out at the beach and surrounding areas. Excessive fares and harassment of tourists are being dealt with immediately,” he added.
