Kagiso Rabada, accompanied by Lungi, Wayne Parnell, Shamsi and Dussen shattered Bangladesh high hopes to win the second match on Sunday.
Bangladesh after batting first, riding on Afif Hossain’s 72 runs could manage a decent total of 194 runs despite an early debacle.
But it was a too easy target for South Africa to reach when a quick-fire 62 off 41 balls from De Cock led the hosts to a comfortable victory to make the series 1-1, as the third and last match will be the series decider.
Held at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, the mission of Bangladesh team was to confirm the series win when South Africa after suffering the defeat in the first match was in a position to save the series.
It was an opportunity for Bangladesh, to make their way easier to confirm their room in the World Cup 2023 with obtaining series win points. But due to the defeat they will have to wait up to the last match of the series on March 23 at Centurion.
However, South Africa made their mission a success to remain in the contest outplaying the visitors when after they curbed Bangladesh innings on 194 runs and comfortably reached the winning target playing 37.2 overs.
Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal eyeing to set a challenging total for South Africa decided to bat first after winning the toss but led by fierce Kagiso Rabada the hosts bowlers restricted Bangladesh under 200 runs mark.
Bangladesh, who felt into early debacle losing three wickets for 23, saw deep trouble after being reduced five for 34 when Afif Hossain along with Mahmudullah and Mehdi Miraz steered the team to score a decent total of 194 runs but South Africa had no too much trouble to score 195 for three wickets in 37.2 overs.
South Africa, however, had started brilliantly, with Lungi Ngidi getting Tamim Iqbal in the third over.
Rabada, could not shine in the first match of the series when one of the top pace bowlers in the world had to work hard to have only one wicket in his 10 overs spell conceding 57 runs but on the day appeared with ferocious mood to damage the visitors taking five wickets.
It was second five wickets haul of Rabada in the ODI when all the pacers created enormous trouble for the Bangladesh batters with short balls, were very effective at the Wanderers’ pitch.
Lungi Ngidi, who was very expensive in the first match to take one wicket conceding 75 runs in his 10 overs, but in the second match was very economy to concede 34 runs in 10 overs to take one wicket.
Lungi, made an early big blow with sending opener Tamim Iqbal for one with the scoreboard show only seven runs. But following Lungi’s knock, Rabada struck twice in a row to have Liton Das and Shakib Al Hanssa’s wickets when he took three including Yasir Ali just to crack the top Bangladesh orders.
Against the mighty bowling attacks at a stage Bangladesh were reduced to 34 for 5 in the 13th over but Afif Hossain’s stalwart 72 off 107 balls and two double figures from Mahmudullah Riyad (25) and Mehdi Hassan Meraz (38) led to a respectable total, nearer to 200.
Chasing to a modest total, De Cock and Kyle Verreynne set a solid foundation scoring 86 runs in 12.3 overs in the first wicket partnership.
Bangladesh though picked up two wickets in a span of eight runs with Mehdi Hassan Miraz making the first break through taking Janneman Malan and Shakib Hassan Quinton de Cock, after that the bowlers could not make any harm but to pick the captain Temba Bavuma wicket.
Kyle Verreynne and Rassie van der Dussen remained unbeaten with 58 and eight runs up to bring the team to winning target.
