BNP Standing Committee member Major (rtd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed on Tuesday urged the interim government to hold talks with the political parties to bring the country back to democratic practice.

“Political parties are the stakeholders of the people of the country. It is our request to the Chief Adviser and council of advisers to hold talks with the political parties if they want democratic practice,” he said while addressing a programme at Jatiya Press Club ibn the capital.

“Please pave the way for the public representatives to take the responsibilities by holding the polls within a justified time,” he added.

Dr Muhammad Yunus took the charge of the interim government after the fall of Sheikh Hasina led government amid a mass upsurge.

Although the BNP has been extending support to the interim government, they have been urging the Dr Yunus led government to hold the national elections within quickest possible time.

Highlighting the action plan of his government, Dr Yunus on Sunday said that the timing of elections was a political decision.

“It is not our decision when the next elections will be held. The countrymen have to take a decision when they will make us relieve,” he said.

Hafiz also suggested the Chief Adviser to become ‘tough’ to resist the counter-revolution of the fallen dictatorship.

Whatever is necessary to realize the essence of the revolution and thwart the counter-revolution, take the measure, he continued.

Fallen dictator Sheikh Hasina's successors are still sitting in different places. In every force, especially the police force and the administration, there are those who have helped to sustain the illegitimate government of Sheikh Hasina's government for 16 years, the senior BNP leader claimed.

He further said, "We want this revolution to come to a successful conclusion. Chief Advisor Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, you are our glory. Be strong, don't think yourself weak. The people of Bangladesh are with you. So you will play a role so that no rogue can take over Bangladesh.”

We hope that he will serve Bangladesh like a revolutionary by adopting a revolutionary character, Major Hafiz opined.

He also said, "Everyone must be alert to prevent counter-revolution against the revolution of the students and masses."

I would hope that if someone wants to start a counter-revolution in the future, the government should call the BGB first. If BGB fails, call the Army, Major Hafiz suggested.
