Renowned hockey coach Fazlul Haque, affectionately known as "Ostad Fazlul" by his students and colleagues, tragically passed away on Wednesday morning in Dhaka.
The former player, who had made a significant impact on the development of Bangladeshi hockey, suffered a fall at his home, sustaining injuries to his left shoulder. Despite being rushed to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, medical professionals were unable to save his life.
Haque dedicated his life to nurturing young hockey talent. In the early 1990s, he began coaching at the prestigious Armanitola High School, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of some of Bangladesh's most celebrated players, including Rafikul Islam Kamal, Rasel Mahmud Jimmy, and Maksud Alam Habul.
Haque was laid to rest at the family graveyard in Shaheb Bazar this evening following a funeral prayer at the Tara Masjid after Asr. His loss will be deeply felt by the hockey community, as well as his family and friends.
