Historical ‘Kazir Masjid’ or ‘Mosque of Quadi,’ built during the Mughal era, is situated at Dilbarirpar village under Paschim Daldalia union of Ulipur upazila of Kurigram district.
Instead of using brick and sand, the mosque has been built with the mortar mixed with lime and brick-dust or surki. The 32 feet long and 13 feet broad old building of the mosque is situated on hard-foundation containing three domes. Adjacent to the old mosque, a new structure has been extended which contains five domes and four minarets. A portion of the old mosque has been given away (sunk under earth) under earth. It also contains a small Mihrab ( prayer niche) from where the Khatib or Imam delivers the sermon during the Friday prayer. A total of 15 to 20 devotees can say their prayer inside this mosque. Though the mosque is plain inside it is decorated with floral and graphic ornamentation on the outside walls. The newly extended portion of the mosque is also being ornamented and beautified with floral and graphic designs.
There is a large pond with concrete stairs(ghat) at the East side of the mosque and a new grave-yard. There is also a Eidgah, Hafizia Madrasha, Lillah Boarding at the North side and Nurani Madrasha at the South of the mosque while a three-acre old grave-yard encircled with high walls is situated at the West side of the mosque.
There is no correct history of the historical Kazir Masjid. But, according to elders, the mosque was built by one Kazi Kutub Uddin during the Mughal era.
According to the book entitled ' History of Ulipur and Folk Literature' in 1214 Hijri year a Muslim priest named Kazi Kutub Uddin arrived this region from Persia( Iran) and built the mosque. He propagated Islam among the local people and say prayers five-time a day with other devotees inside the mosque. After his departure, the local Muslims continued to say their prayers here but being small in size, this mosque was abandoned later on and it was shrouded under jungles.
A stone inscription written in Persian has been set at the entrance of the mosque. It says: Starting with the name of Allah, most gracious, most merciful. There is no god but Allah and Hazrat Muhammad(Sm) is the prophet of Allah. Mr Kazi Kutub Uddin constructed this sacred house of Allah, the mosque with his deep faith and Iman. On the grace of the Prophet(Sm), the construction of the mosque was completed on Monday. It is assumed the mosque was constructed 1214 Hijri year. In 2003, the mosque was acquired by the Department of Archaeology.
A large number of devotees from far away places visit this moque to have a look at it and to say their prayer. Specially, during the Juma prayer, more than 1,500 devotees arrived here to say their prayers.
Those devotees donated various gifts including money, sweet-meats, goats, rice, fruits and chickens and handed over those gifts to the members of the mosque management committee.
By selling those gifts, the mosque earns Tk 150,000 to 200,000 every year.
The Khatib of the Kazir Masjid Maulana Abdus Sabur informed, he has been working as the chief priest of the mosque for the last 51-year. He said, so far as he knows, the mosque was in a deserted state and covered in jungle. Local people cleared the jungle and reconstructed the mosque and at present 15 to 20 devotees say their prayers regularly. The mosque is being extended so that more people can say their prayers there.
Saiful Islam, General Secretary of the Mosque Management Committee informed with the money and gifts received from the devotees, a new mosque building with a five-storey foundation is being constructed adjacent to the old mosque. Later on, the Madrasha and the grave-yard will also be renovated.
