Historic March 7 celebrated countrywide with patriotic zeal

The historic March 7, commemorating the epoch-making speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on March 7 in 1971 at Racecourse Maidan in Dhaka, was celebrated across the country on Saturday with much enthusiasm and patriotic spirit.

Bangabandhu delivered the historic speech before a mammoth rally during a period of struggle for independence. Our correspondents from various districts sent news items on the issue. 

In Rajshahi, ruling Awami League, various institutions and socio-cultural organisations and professional bodies observed the day through elaborate programmes, reports our Rajshahi Correspondent. 

The day’s programmes began with the hoisting of national and party flags atop of the party office buildings and placing wreaths at the portraits of Bangabandhu and four other national leaders in the morning.

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and others joined the programmes. AL city unit held discussion at its office with AHM Khairuzzaman Liton in the chair. 

Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Rajshahi College and Rajshahi Medical College also observed the historic day highlighting its significance elaborately.

In Khulna, a total of 19,200 children from 128 educational institutions delivered historic March 7 Speech ‘Ebarer Songram Muktir Songram, Ebarer Songram Amader Shadhinotar Songram’ at Khulna Zilla Stadium, reports our Khulna Correspondent. 

Khulna District Administration and Child Integrity and Shishu Bangabandhu Forum jointly organised the programme. National flag was hoisted and wreath was placed in front of Bangabandhu during this time. Later, children delivered the historic speech. After speech, Divisional Commissioner of Khulna Dr Md Anwar Hossain Howlader administrated oath to young students. 

Meanwhile, eight persons get special honour who were present at the Race Course ground on 7th March, 1971.

Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Mohammad Helal Hossain presided over the programme while Sheikh Helal Uddin, MP of Bagerhat-1 constituency were present as the chief guest.

At that time, Whip of Jatiya Sangsad Ponachanon Biswas, Akhterujjaman Babu, Mp of Khulna-6 constituency, Khulna Range DIG Dr Khodoker Mahid Uddin, Police Commissioner Khondoker Lutful Kabir, Organising Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Central Committee SM Kamal, and former Senior Secretary Md Abdus Samad along with others were also present.

In Gopalganj, central leaders of ruling Awami League paid tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreath at his grave at Tungipara in Gopalganj on Saturday, reports our Gopalganj Correspondent. 

Sheikh Helal Uddin, MP and Awami League’s organising secretary S M Kamal Hossain led the AL delegation. Freedom Fighter Amdadul Haque, Gopalganj AL president, Mahbub Ali Khan, General Secretary of the unit, Md Ruhul Amin Seikh, vice president, and Seikh Lutfur Rahman Bacchu, Upazila Chairman were present at the time, among others. 

Gopalganj district Awami League began the day programme by hoisting national and party flags at the party office at 7:00 am. Later, they arranged a special prayer offering for the departure soul of Bangabandhu

In Gazipur, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) brought out a colorful rally on the campus on the occasion of historic March 7, reports our Gajipur Correspondent. 

Vice Chancellor of the university Prof Dr Md Giashuddin Mia along with other teachers of the university paid tribute to Bangabandhu by placing wreath at his portrait on the campus. Bangabandhu Kormokorta Parishad and Bangabandhu Kormochari Parishad also paid tribute to Bangabandhu and his family members. The university’s deans, treasurer, register, directors, proctors, provosts and students took a part in the programme.

In Faridpur, the historicl day was observed in the district with due respect amid various programmes. On the occasion, national flag and party flag were hoisted at Awami League office in Faridpur town, reports our Faridpur Correspondent. 

Later, the party leaders led by MP from Faridpur Sadar constituency Engineer Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain placed wreaths at the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. At that time, a minute of silence was observed to commemorate those martyred in the Liberation War.  

In Bogura, the day was observed with due respect. Bogura Press Club, District Awami League unit, Upazila Awami League unit and Upazila Parishad organised separate programmes in the district marking the day, reports our Bogura Correspondent. 

District Awami League unit held a discussion meeting at the party office in the morning. President of the district AL Mujibur Rahman Majnu presided over the discussion. 

Bogura Press Club also organised a discussion on the occasion. President of the Press Club Mahmudul Alam Nayan chaired the discussion. In addition, various organisations also held different programmes on the day. 

In Sherpur, the day was observed in the district by holding various programmes, reports our Sherpur Correspondent. 

Marking the day, MP from Sherpur-1 and Whip in Parliament Md Atiur Rahman Atik paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing wreath at his portrait set up in front of DC office. Later, Sherpur DC, Police Super, Awami League leaders, Sherpur municipality, Sherpur Press Club and others placed wreaths there. 

The district administration arranged a discussion at Shilpakala Academy. Atiur Rahman Atik, MP, attended the discussion as the chief guest with DC Anar Koli Mahbub in the chair. 

In Noakhali, the day was observed in Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) in a befitting manner, reports our NSTU Correspondent. 

On the occasion, the national flag  was hoisted and balloon was released and a rally was brought out on the campus in the morning. Later, the university teachers and students placed wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu. 

NSTU Treasurer Prof Dr Mohammed Faruqe Uddin, Registrar Prof Dr. Abul Hossain, General Secretary of the NSTU Teachers Association Maznur Rahman and General Secretary of the Officers Association Mezbah Uddin (Palash) were present at the time, among others. 

Later, a discussion, mass songs and dance programme was held in front of the administrative building. 

In Lakshmipur, the day was observed with due respect. A drawing and Bangabandhu’s historic speech recitation was held in the participation of more than a hundred students of the district. The competition was held at Lakshmipur zila parishad. 

Chairman of Lakshmipur Zila Parishad Md. Shahjahan, District Member of Bangladesh Shishu Academy Professor Mainuddin Pathan, teachers and parents were present at the time. 

In Kushtia, the authorities of Islamic University (IU) observed the historic March 7 on the campus in Kushtia by holding various programmes, reports IU Correspondent. 

Marking the day, teachers and officers of the university brought out a procession on the campus. IU vice chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari led the processions. IU pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman, treasurer Prof Dr M Selim Toha, registrar in-charge SM Abdul Latif, IUTA president Prof Dr M Kazi Akther Hossain attended the procession, among others.

The teachers and officers paid rich tribute and homage to Bangabandhu by placing wreath at his mural ‘Mrittunjoyee Mojib’ on the campus. Later, a discussion was held.

IU central mosque Imam ASM Shoyeb Ahmad offered Dua-Munajaz while over 150 teachers and officers of different offices were present at the programme.

In Chuadanga, the district administration, Shishu Academy, Awami League and different other socio-cultural organisations arranged various progrmames in the district marking the day, reports out Chuadanga Correspondent.  

Chuadanga District Awami League hoisted national flag and party flag before sunrise on the premises of AL party office. The party men also placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu. 

The district administration arranged a discussion, painting competition and cultural function with Monira Parvin, Additional District Magistrate, in the chair. Nazrul Islam Sarker, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chuadanga, was present as the chief guest. 

Students of different schools and colleges took part in painting competition on March 7 Speech. Later they were given prizes by chief guest Nazrul Islam Sarker.

In Jashore, the day was observed amid various programmes. Keshabpur Upazila Awami League unit of Jashore hoisted the National Flag and party flag at the upazila party office, placed floral wreaths at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s mural and held special prayer on the day. Upazila Awami League President SM Ruhul Amin chaired the programme reports our Keshabpur correspondent.

Meanwhile, Keshabpur upazila administration and upazila Shishu Academy organized drawing and Bangabandhu’s historical speech reciting competitions on the occasion. Later, a discussion and the prize distribution of the competitions were also held.

Keshabpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nusrat Jahan presided over the discussion while Upazila Chairman Freedom Fighter Alhaj Kazi Rafiqul Islam attended as the chief guest. 

In Gaibandha, the historic 7th March was celebrated in the district as elsewhere of the country in a befitting manner. The district administration chalked out elaborate programmes on the occasion.

The programme was followed by a discussion meeting held on the premises of Public Library of the town on the importance of the day with DC Abdul Matin in the chair.
