Torrential rain and upstream water have intensified the risk of landslide in the hilly districts in the country.
Deaths due to landslides are occurring frequently in Chattogram, Bandarban, Khagrachhari, Rangamati and Sylhet districts.
According to sources, several hundred people died in last few years due to unplanned hill cutting that triggering landslides.
The sources said, at least total of 66 people lost their lives due to landslide in last five years only in Bandarban district. Of them, ten people were killed due to landslide last year. Many people are still living with risk at several hills in Bandarban.
Principal Scientific Officer of Bandarban Soil Research Development Institute Md. Mahbubul Islam recently said landslide can occur due to the moderate to heavy rainfall of the past few days. So, everyone needs to be cautious about this.

In the latest development, two persons, including a child, were killed in a landslide in Balukhali area at Ukhia in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday.
Moreover, landslides occurred in several places from Darianagar to Himchhari marine drive area. The
vehicular movement was halted for a while in this incident.
Many low-lying areas of Cox’s Bazar also went under water due to heavy rain.
Earlier on June 19, two local Bangladeshi residents and 8 Rohingyas were killed in landslides in and around the Rohingya camps.
On the other hand, one person was killed due to landslide at Naikhonchhari in Bandarban on June 29.
