As nationwide humanitarian assistance distribution by the government and other voluntary organisations are going on in full-swing, hundreds of locals blocked Dinajpur-Rangpur Highway on Saturday, demanding relief. As a result, severe traffic jam has been created on both sides of the road.
Locals say that they did not have any food support from the government or any others.Hundreds of protesters from West Shibrampur, Gosaipur, Nayanpur and Barail villages blocked the highway. The blockade continued till 11:30 pm till filing of this report.
Dinajpur SadarUpazila Executive Officer (UNO) Magfarul Abbasi went to the spot and persuaded the agitators to lift the blockade.
Protesters said that Hanif, member of Ward No 1 of Chehelgazi Union did not distribute any relief items to the union. Most people in the union are easy bike drivers. We have been left without any incomebecause of the shutdown. They said hunger forced them to come out on the road. “We don’t have anything to eat and we didn’t receive any food aid,” said one of them.
