Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud said, "Bangladesh's development and progress is recognized by the world community today and it is the moral responsibility of our media to show the people that the country is moving forward."
The minister made this assertion while unveiling the cover of the book 'Jatir Pita Sheikh Mujib' published by the Department of Mass Communication at the Ministry's meeting room on Thursday afternoon. Major General Mizanur Rahman Shamim, Director General of Ansar and Village Defense Forces implementing the project, Additional Secretary of the Ministry Farooq Ahmed and Project Director Dewan Omar Farooq spoke on the occasion.
The Information Minister said that if the development and progress of the nation is to be continued, if the country is to be delivered to its dream destination, it is not possible with the frustrated people. People will be frustrated if bad news is always served and development of the nation is not possible with frustrated people. If any negative news has news value, it must be published. But at the same time, it is very important to inform the people about the progress that Bangladesh is making today, leaving behind Pakistan and India.
Hasan Mahmud, in response to a question from reporters about the BNP's negative comments on the formation of the Election Commission through the President's dialogue with various political parties, said that the Election Commission was formed through the President's dialogue last time as well. And the fact that Mahbub Talukder, who from time to time disagreed with many of the Commission's decisions and some called it pro-BNP, also got a place as Election Commissioner through dialogue, proves that the formation of Election Commission was right in this manner and the dialogue was effective. He hoped that the BNP would move away from the negative politics of not saying everything at this time. What they are saying on the streets, they can say in the dialogue.
