Defending champions Abahani Limited and title contenders Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC) won their respective matches in the ongoing 10th Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League hed at the different venues across the country on Saturday.
Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC) pacer Abu Hider Rony ran through the Gazi Tyres Cricket Academy batting line-up with a seven-wicket haul to bundle them out for a mere 40 runs at the BKSP Ground-3 at Savar.
Rony claimed all of his seven wickets in a six-over spell with the new ball while spinner Nasum Ahmed claimed the remaining three wickets to bowl out Gazi Tyres for the third lowest total ever in List A cricket in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, on Friday at the Shere-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, in the 50 overs encounter Rupganj Tigers were all out for 110 runs against Shinepukur, who crossed the winning mark in nine overs losing no wickets.
However, Rony’s figures of 7-20 is also the third best in the 50 overs format among the Bangladesh bowlers, with pacer Yeasin Arafat is the best with taking 8 wickets for 40 runs against Abahani for Gazi Group Cricketers in the DPL in 2018.
Middle order batter Iftikhar Sajjad scored the maximum 16 runs for Gazi Tires Cricket Academy. No other batter could touch double figures when four batters got out for duck. Duration of Gazi Tires' innings was only for 60 minutes.
Mohammedan lost only one wicket to score the winning runs (41). Mehedi Hasan Miraj got out after scoring 12 runs off 12 balls off Ariful Islam Akash. Captain Imrul Kayes remained unbeaten with 19 and Mahidul Islam remained unbeaten with five runs.
Mohammedan Sporting Club reached the winning target playing just 6.2 overs (38 balls).
Mohammedan collected 14 points from nine matches to confirm the Super League. Defending champions Abahani Limited are on top of the points table with 18 after winning the same number of matches in a row. Gazi Tires Cricket Academy earned four points from nine matches.
Meanwhile, Legends of Rupganj and reigning champions Dhaka Abahani faced each other at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah, Narayanganj on the day.
Mominul Haque’s team lost to Abahani by eight wickets. Three pacers of Abahani bundled out Rupganj for 99 runs.
Young pacer Tanzim Hasan Shakib bagged five wickets for 23 runs. After the five wicket haul, Sakib was overwhelmed as he said, “Thanks to almighty Allah.”
“To achieve five wickets was a dream for a long time and I have made it success. I am grateful to Allah,” said Tanzim Sakib.
“It's definitely a good feeling because wherever I play I want offer best performance. If I have the ability to take wickets in the DPL, it will help me a lot in internationals. So, on that account, I am thinking that I will have to do well in the international matches. I bowled with full focus and Alhamdulillah succeeded,” the pacer added.
Before Sakib, two more pacers - Shariful and Taskin collected five and more wickets in a match. Shakib said, “When we talk among ourselves we discuss, as we do in international matches.”
Abahani scored the winning runs by 10.4 overs with Enamul Haque Vijay scored 37 and Mosaddek Saikat made 48 runs.
