In a significant step towards educational reform, the government has announced the equivalence of the Higher Education Test (HET) Certificate course with the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC). This decision, aimed at nurturing inclusivity and recognizing diverse educational paths, comes after rigorous evaluation and approval by key educational bodies.
Professor Abu Taleb Moazzem Hossain, The College Inspector of Dhaka Education Board, confirmed this mentioning an order signed by him, which highlights the equivalency granted to the HET Certificate course.
The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) recently endorsed the three-year HET course curriculum as equivalent to HSC standards, as revealed in the office order. Students completing this course are now eligible to apply
for an equivalent certificate from the Dhaka Education Board, subject to prescribed fees and application procedures.
Professor Mashiuzzaman, the NCTB Member (Education),
elaborated on the decision, noting that the HET course, notably offered by the Bangladesh Navy, spans three years and emphasizes practical studies. Following a thorough assessment of the curriculum, the decision to confer equivalent status to HSC was made, reflecting the government's commitment to recognizing diverse educational endeavors.
It's noteworthy that the Dhaka Education Board's responsibility extends to equating SSC and HSC certificates within the national education system and aligning A level certificates from foreign education systems. Furthermore, the University Grants Commission (UGC) plays a pivotal role in equating national certificates with higher education certificates from various countries, ensuring
international recognition and
opportunities for students.
This move underscores the government's dedication to promoting educational parity and facilitating smoother transitions between educational pathways, ultimately empowering students with greater opportunities for academic and professional advancement.
