Jhenaidah Sadar upazila parishad chairman, Awami League Jhenaidah Sadar upazila unit president, heroic freedom fighter and renowned lawyer of Jhenaidah Abdur Rashid Advocate was buried with state honour at his village graveyard at Berbari in Jhenaidah Sadar on Thursday evening.
He died at a Dhaka hospital after suffering in some physical and old age complications at about 3am on Thursday.
The 74 year leader left behind her wife, a son and three daughters. The first namaje e janaja of Abdur Rashid Advocate was held at Jhenaidah Wazir Ali High school ground and then at his village home in the afternoon.
Dr. Saiful Islam, the son of Rashid engaged in researching on cancer in Australia said his father was suffering from physical and old age complications for a couple of years and undergoing treatment in an specialist private hospital in Dhaka where he breathed his last at about 3am on Thursday.
Rashid started his carrier as a secondary school teacher and then started serving as a lawyer with a Jhenaidah court. He was involved with the politics of the then East Pakistan Chhatra League in 1968. He joined the liberation war movement in 1971 and engaged in Awami league politics for 53 years under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The devoted AL leader was involved with the politics Juba League, Krishak League and Awami League. Since 1983 to 2006, Rashid was district committee president of Krishak League Jhenaidah district committee. Rashid had established Kabi Paglakanai Srity Sangrakkhan Sangha, Berbari secondary school and a number of education and social welfare organizations in the locality, Rashid’s son Dr. Saiful Islam said.
