Heritage volunteers visit Shalban Vihar

The heritage volunteers participating in UNESCO World Heritage Volunteers Programme 2023 visited Shalban Vihar and Museum in Cumilla under the supervision of Associate Professor Sohrab Uddin Sourav of Comilla University.

The ten-day workshop programme organised by Nagar Upakhyan-Perceive started on October 1, said a press release.

The site is on the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list. The volunteer team will add their recommendations to their report after monitoring the site also. 

The team departed from Dhaka on Tuesday and experienced various activists in Comilla throughout the day and stayed at Bangladesh Rural Development Academy Comilla at night. After visiting Shalbon Vihar and Museum, they headed directly to Naogaon Paharpur under the leadership of Fatiha Palin, the founder ED of Nagar Upakhyan Persiv.

This year’s theme is ‘interpretation of the terracotta plaques of the Buddhist Vihara at Paharpur, Bangladesh’.

The World Heritage Volunteers Programme workshop will be conducted till October 10 by visiting Cumilla and Paharpur, attending a terracotta workshop at the Charukala at Dhaka University and visiting Bangladesh National Museum.
