Hefazat-e-Islam, the leading platform of teachers and students of qwami madrasar in Bangladesh, has called for a protest march and rally protesting derogatory remarks made against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and to demand the swift arrest of those responsible
Dhaka city unit of the platform will arrange the protest rally at 3:00 pm on Monday at the northern gate of Baitul Mukarram Mosque in the capital. Hefazat’s General Secretary Sheikh Sajidur Rahman will speak at the rally as the chief guest.
This information was disclosed in a press release signed by Maulana Afsar Mahmood, office secretary of Hefazat’s Dhaka city unit, on Thursday evening.
Hefazat-e-Islam’s President Maulana Junaid Al Habib and Secretary Maulana Mamunul Haque
stated: "The offensive remarks made by Hindu priest Ramgiri Maharaj in Maharashtra, India, against the Prophet (PBUH), along with the support given by BJP MP Nitesh Narayan Rane, have ignited anger in the hearts of devout and Prophet-loving Muslims around the world. We are struggling to find the words to express our condemnation and protest against this slander.”
Hefazat-e-Islam was formed in January 2010 in Chattogram under the leadership of Allama Ahmad Shafi to safeguard Islam from alleged anti-Islamic policies and to end secularism.
The group’s inception was triggered by the 2009 Women Development Policy draft that proposed giving equal inheritance rights to women. The group is comprised of Sunni Islamists and their vast madrassa network and supporters. Although Hefazat-e-Islam is not a political party, the leaders have openly lobbied for political and legal reforms.
