Hefazat-e-Islam demanded the ban of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in a protest rally held in the Chattogram city on Friday.
The rally was held on Shahi Jame Masjid premises in Andarkilla area of the city, where speakers demanded the immediate ban on ISKCON. After the brief rally, Hefazat-e-Islam leaders and activists took out a procession around 2.30pm.
In protest against the incident in Hazari Lane, the Hefazat-e-Islam Chattogram metropolitan unit organized this programme. During the rally, they condemned the attack on a businessman Osman Ali's shop in Hazari Lane, as well as the assault on joint force members and the acid attack on them.
The leaders of the organization demanded that the authorities of the organization, who were involved in the incident, to be promptly arrested and immediately brought under law.
The speakers said if ISKCON is not banned, Hefazat-e-Islam will announce stricter movement.
However, the leaders of ISKCON claimed that they had no involvement in the Hazari Lane incident. This claim was made at a press conference organized by ISKCON Bangladesh at the Swamibag ISKCON Ashram in the capital on Friday morning. The organization had made the same claim in a statement to the media earlier on Wednesday.
After the rally, a procession was brought out which started from Andarkilla and ended at the Chattogram Press Club in the Jamal Khan area.
The protest rally was presided over by Maulana Tajul Islam, the coordinator of the Hefazat-e-Islam Chattogram metropolitan unit, while Maulana Nur Nabi, Anwar Hossain, Salauddin, Ashraf Bin Yakub, Md Shahid, Mohammad Rabbani, and others addressed the rally.
