Heavyweight candidates from AL, BNP likely to contest

In Rajshahi-6 (Charghat-Bagha) constituency, there are more than a dozen candidates from the ruling Awami League who are all trying to seek nominations as candidates to contest the upcoming MP elections.

The constituency was known as the hub of the opposition BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, and the candidates from both BNP and Jamaat, if the parties participate the elections, are getting prepared to seek nominations to contest the poll,

There are also more than a dozen candidates both from the BNP and Jamaat in the constituency who are ready to seek nomination from the parties to contest the elections.

According to sources, three-time Member of Parliament, President of Bagha Upazila Awami League and incumbent State Minister for Foreign Affairs, ShahriarAlam is immensely popular among his party men and supporters for his development and humanitarian activities in Bagha.

He was elected as the Member of Parliament in 2008, 2014 and 2018. ShahriarAlam has turned Bagha into an attractive upazila by constructing broad roads, beautifying the banks of the river Padma and the repair and reconstructing of the famous terracotta Bagha mosque, built in 1523 by Sultan Nurat Shah and an example of pre-Mughal architecture of intricate design.

For his development activities and being an efficient State Minister of Foreign Affairs, ShahriarAlam is almost sure to get the nomination as a candidate to contest the next Parliamentary poll from AL.

Bagha Upazila Chairman Advocate Layeb Uddin Lablu is also very popular among the

people of Bagha. Most of the people of BaghafavourLayeb Uddin Lablu for his ability to meet the common people, talk to them patiently and his effort to solve their problems. But, Lablu has a drawback, he is only popular among the people of Bagha not among the people of Charghat upazila.

As a result, though most of the people of Bagha want to see Layeb Uddin Lablu as a candidate for contesting the post of Member of Parliament from the Rajshahi-6 (Bagha-Charghat) constituency, he is unlikely to bag nomination from Awami League by surpassing State Minister ShahriarAlam.

In addition, Akkas Ali, Mayor of Bagha Municipality and AL leader RaihanulHaqueRaihan are likely to seek nominations from AL as candidates to contest the Parliamentary elections.

Imprisoned BNP leader, former Chairman of Charghat upazila and Convener of Rajshahi district BNP Abu Sayed Chand is a very popular leader among the people of Charghat and Bagha. He is learnt to be a heavyweight candidate from BNP. It is said that no one is left empty-handed by seeking assistance from Abu Sayed Chand. He is also very popular for entertaining any visitor to his house by serving food. He is now serving jail for threatening to kill the Prime Minister.

Abu Sayed Chand would surely get a ticket from the BNP to contest the Parliamentary Poll as an MP candidate. Among others, BNP central committee member Debashish Roy Modhu and former Joint Secretary of district BNP Anowar Hossain Ujjal, former Organising Secretary of BNP Golam Mostafa Mamun and BNP leader Nuruzzaman Khan Manik are favoured candidates from the Party who would seek nominations from the party high command to contest the election frays.

ShamsuddinRintu and Iqbal Hossain from the Jatiya Party and Nazmul Hossain from Jamaat-e-Islami are likely the candidates from the respective parties to contest the next JS polls.
