The court has scheduled a new date for hearing the testimony in the Narcotics Control Act case involving Dhallywood actress Porimoni and two others. The testimony will be heard on July 28.
On Monday, Judge Nazrul Islam of Dhaka's Special Judge-10 court issued this order. Porimoni’s lawyer, Nilanjana Rifat Surabhi, requested a postponement as the High Court order copy had not been received. The court granted the request and rescheduled the hearing.
The case, filed on August 5 last year, stems from Porimoni’s arrest by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on August 4, 2021. RAB found foreign liquor, crystal meth (ice), and LSD at her home in Banani. The seized items were valued at approximately 207,000 taka.
The investigation, led by CID Inspector Kazi Mustafa Kamal, revealed that Porimoni obtained the liquor from Nazrul Islam Raj. On October 4, Kamal submitted a charge sheet against Porimoni and two others. On November 15, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayesh transferred the case to Dhaka Special Judge-10.
On the day of the arrest, RAB-1 received information about Ashraful Islam, Porimoni’s associate, storing foreign liquor at Porimoni’s house. A raid led to the discovery and seizure of the drugs and liquor.
Porimoni's legal team is preparing for the upcoming hearing on July 28, where the court will hear the testimonies related to the case. The trial will proceed with further investigations and witness statements to determine the outcome of the charges against Porimoni and her associates.
