The Health Minister, Dr. Samanta Lal Sen, made a commitment to improve public accessibility and medical services, stressing that the health sector will improve gradually rather than suddenly.
He made these assurances during the inauguration of the upgradation from 10 beds to 50 beds ‘Sohid Samsunnesa Arju Moni Mother and Child Health Care Center’ in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Addressing the audience, Dr. Sen highlighted the importance of local hospitals offering blood pressure and diabetes tests, which he believes can effectively manage major diseases across the country.
He further promised comprehensive support for the ‘Sohid Samsunnesa Arju Moni Mother and Child Health Care Center’, pledging to address ambulance shortages in hospitals nationwide and ensure adequate supplies to combat diseases like dengue.
At the event, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh urged the Health Minister to prioritise manpower, equipment, and ambulance services across the health sector, echoing the need for enhanced healthcare provisions.
The DSCC Mayor said as special guest that even basic services and even circumcision of children, various types of accidents occur. To prevent such untoward accidents from happening and to ensure that people get quality medical care, the City Corporation is giving importance to primary health care.
He also stated, DSCC is providing primary health care very smoothly. DSCC's urban primary health care programme is running under a project funded by the Asian Development Bank. This project will be completed next year. But the city corporation wants to continue this activity even after the project is over. That is why the cooperation of the Ministry of Health will be needed in matters of self-sufficiency, from manpower to necessary medical equipment. DSCC wants to ensure these services for city dwellers in its own capacity and increase their capacity.
Also in attendance was Dhaka-10 Member of Parliament Ferdous Ahmed.
