Hawa’s director sued for breaching wildlife law

Director Mejbaur Rahman Sumon sued for breaching Wildlife Act in his debut film ‘Hawa’. The Wildlife Crime Control Unit (WCCU) of the Forest Department has filed a case against him with the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court on Wednesday Aug 17. Several sources from the forest department and the court have confirmed this information to the media.

According to court sources, a four-member team from WCCU department went to watch the film at Star Cineplex of Bashundhara City branch. The inspector of the Wildlife Crime Control Unit, Nargis Sultana, is the plaintiff and the other 3 members working in the investigation committee Abdullah Al Sadiq, Asim Mallik, and Rathindra Kumar Biswas have been made witnesses in the case.

 The filmmaker was accused for violating sections 38 (1), (2), 41 and 46 of the Wildlife Conservation and Security Act of 2012.

Earlier, the film was released on July 29. After its release, it is known from the review of the film that Sardar Chan Majhi portrait by Chanchal Chowdhury of the fishing boat has a pet bird Nayantara, a Common Myna locally known as Shalik bird which was bound in a cage. Sardar feeds the bird regularly and also pours water into the bird's cage. However, at one point in the film, the bird was killed and eaten by him. 

Although the director Mejbaur Rahman Sumon has claimed that no animals were harmed while filming the movie and insisted that 'dummy' versions of animals were used to progress the story.  

The story and dialogues of the film are written by the director of the film Mejbaur Rahman Sumon and the screenplay is also done by director along with Sukorno Shahed Dhiman and Zahin Faruk Amin.

It was filmed in the deep sea with a story that revolves around eight sailors and a mysterious Bedeni (snake charmer) trapped in a destination less fishing trawler in the abyss in the middle of the sea. Apart from Chanchal Chowdhury, Nazifa Tushi, Sariful Islam Razz, Sumon Anowar, Shohel Mondol, Nasir Uddin Khan, Abdul Jabbar Chowdhury, Mahmud Hasan and Bablu Bose, among others have acted in this star-studded film.

The film is shot by Kamrul Hasan Khasru, edited by Sajal Alok, background music pinned by Rashid Sharif Shoaib, and music composed by Emon Chowdhury and the poster was designed by Sabyasachi Mistry.  According to the film's production company Face Card Productions and Sun Music & Motion Pictures Limited.
