Zonayed Saki, Chief Co-ordinator of Gonosanghati Andolon claimed that the deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had attempted to establish the rule of BAKSAL 2.0 like that of her father.
Zonayed Saki came up with the assertion while addressing a mass dialogue held at the Shaheb Bazar Boro Masjid premises on Saturday noon.
He said, “The BAKSAL of '75 was in accordance to the continuation of power mentioned in the Constitution of -'72. Sheikh Hasina wanted to establish BAKSAL 2.0 by following the same constitution. She thought the BAKSAL would continue under the cover of democracy and she wanted to establish that.”
Gonosanghati Andolon of Rajshahi district branch organised the dialogue.
Saki further said, “The Constitution of '72 has defied people's aspirations in 1971. That constitution has kept the Prime Minister above the constitution where the Prime Minister can put the entire state into his/her pocket. Many people say, the Constitution of '72 is all right and it was not correct to set the rule of BAKSAL in '75. Some leftist organisations also have the same idea. We say we do not want this Constitution which turns any ruler into an autocrat.”
Regarding the necessity of the amendment of the constitution, Zonayed Saki said, “The next constitution should ensure equal honour for all citizens of the country irrespective of their religious identities.
The honour of a citizen should be determined by ensuring his honour. The right of a citizen should not be determined by his/her sex. The equal rights of each man and woman should be ensured. The balance of power in the parliament should be retained. The balance of power of the Prime Minister and the President should be ensured and they should be brought under accountability.”
He mentioned, “The Local Government should be strengthened in the new constitution. The judiciary should be separated from the executive section so that the government cannot interfere with the judiciary. The media should be independent so that the media stands as a shelter for the people, just like the court.”
Saki said, 'The State-owned organisations should be reformed.
The law should be amended and the election should be arranged after the reform so that no one can snatch the right of franchise of the people in Bangladesh.”
He called upon the new election commission to set up an example so that no one can further snatch away the right of the franchise of the people by using the election commission.
He said, a new political system based on the democratic constitution, not the fascist constitution, should be established.
Rajshahi district convener of GonoSanghati Andolon Advocate Murad Murshed presided over the programme.
Member of central committee Zulhasine Babu and Rajshahi district member secretary Jewel Rana spoke at the programme as special speakers.
