A cloud of concern hangs over the Bangladesh Tigers' pace attack as they gear up for their opening ICC T20 World Cup clash against Sri Lanka this Saturday. While the return of vice-captain Taskin Ahmed from injury brings a sigh of relief, a question mark still remains over his bowling partner, Shoriful Islam.
Shoriful sustained a nasty finger injury during a warm-up match against India on June 1st.
Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu addressed the media, revealing, "Shoriful's injury became a major concern even before we arrived in the States. He picked it up shortly after landing. We're naturally worried, especially considering the six stitches. We'll need a few more days to assess his recovery."
On a more positive note, Lipu confirmed Taskin Ahmed's return. "The good news is that Taskin bowled today, and the feedback we received is encouraging. Based on his recovery progress and performance analysis, barring any unforeseen complications, he should be available for the Sri Lanka match. That's the current understanding from the medical team."
The Tigers will be hoping for a swift recovery for Shoriful, but with Taskin poised to return, they have some breathing room as they strategize for their crucial opening encounter.
