Md. Harun-Ar-Rashid took over as the Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Wednesday as the tenth DG of RAB, replacing M. Khurshid Hossain, who retired.
The Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a gazette notification regarding this change on May 29.
The new RAB DG made his first appearance at the office on Wednesday morning. Later, he paid tribute to the portrait of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at Dhanmondi number 32. Banani then paid his respects at the graveyard. To pay homage at the tomb of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Gopalganj, the RAB Director General left Dhaka at 2 pm on that day.
Md. Harun-Ar-Rashid began his career in 1995 as an assistant superintendent of police in the 15th BCS cadre. He has held various positions in the police, including Deputy Inspector General of the Mymensingh Range in 2019.
Harun, son of Ahmed Ali, earned his MSc degree from Dhaka University's Statistics Department in 1994. He completed his LLB from the University of London in 2009 and his MBA from Dhaka University in 2016.
He became DIG of Mymensingh Range in December 2019 while serving as DIG of Logistics at the Police Headquarters. During his career, Barrister Haroon Aur Rashid was under the direct supervision of police service modernization, such as the Police Clearance Certificate, Online GD, BD Police Helpline, and CIMS.
While serving as DIG of Mymensingh Range, he received the Shuddhachar Award for the financial year 2019–2020. He also received the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPMO).
