Harinakundu upazila Parishad in Jhenaidah had accorded a grand reception to Jatiya Mahila Sangstha (JMS) Jhenaidah district unit chairman, also the best Joyeeta award winner of the district Dipti Rahman on Wednesday noon. The reception was accorded at upazila Parishad conference room marking International Women’ Day 2023 with Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Susmita Saha in the chair.
Upazila woman vice chairman Reshma Khatun, Harinakundu police station officer in charge Saiful Islam, Upazila livestock officer UzzaL Kumar Kundu, upazila social service officer Shewly Rani Biswas and police sub inspector Manira Khatun among others present as special guests.
Facilitated by Saleha Khatun women’s college principal Jamal Uddin, Upazila woman affairs officer Munshi Feroza Sultana presented the main speech. A number of government and non-government office heads, civil society members, media activists were present at the programme.
The guests in their speeches said the deprivation of children primarily starts from a family when the family members, especially, others show negative attitude to a girl child thinking she would be a burden on the family when she will grow.
Since then the girl child become a victim and grow with a peer pressure caused by her family and society. In most cases, especially, in remote village, the guardians arrange marriage of the girl child and throw them in uncertainty.
The future growth and her all development is shattered suddenly when the minor girl do not have any say in family matters.
The speakers had demanded stopping this sort of activities and let the girl child grow normally like a boy child in family and society. Massive awareness among the guardians including mothers, girls and boys students should be conducted frequently, they added.
