A farmer of remote Baithapara village of Harinakundu municipal area in Jhenaidah was arrested with 11 live plants of hemp from his vegetables plot on Friday midnight. The hemp plants seized from his house premises was about four and a half kilograms in weight. The arrested was identified as Alamgir Hossain, 25, son of Sabder Hossain of the village.
Harinakundu police station officer in charge (OC) Saiful Islam said acting on a tip off, a contingent of police led by sub inspector Jagadish Basu and Humayun Kabir raided the house of Alamgir Hossain and conducted drives. The hemp plants were growing in the vegetables plot of the arrested. They arrested had confessed that he has been growing hemp for commercial purposes for last few years.
