The incidents like stripping off people and beating up them in different parts of Dhaka, including Dhanmondi-32, on August 15 are clear violations of human rights, said Sarjis Alam on Friday.
While talking to media, he also said, “On the viral video, we saw a man as my father's age was forced to do sit-up holding his ears, a man as my father's age was stripped naked and people were asked to go away, phones of many people were checked, a man as my mother's age was handcuffed. We witnessed various incidents of attacks on journalists. It doesn't go with the spirit of our movement."
“A lot of untoward incidents happened. Our movement was against repression of people, suppression of freedom of speech, corruption and tyranny. We want a country where everyone can speak and express opinions and act according to what they believe in,” he told reporters.
“Yesterday (Thursday), we saw a number of images of places where students participated. We don't know what ideology these students hold, nor can we define them. But we have representation in the interim government. So, we will try to take action against them through our two student representatives," he added.
He further said, “If any of our coordinators commits this type of incident, we will take action against them. We should know that we are not the authority, but we are a pressure group under the banner of anti-discrimination student movement.”
