Half yearly evaluation exam question leaks raise concerns

Published : 04 Jul 2024 10:18 PM

The recent leaks of exam questions on social media, just hours before the half-yearly exams for grades 6 to 9, have caused worry among teachers, students, and parents. The exams began on July 3 under the new curriculum.

NCTB Chairman Professor Md Moshiuzzaman mentioned that the questions were sent to head teachers' IDs through the "Noipunno" platform. He suggested that head teachers might have accidentally shared the questions, leading to the leaks. The questions were supposed to be printed and distributed to students on exam day.

However, parents and students reported seeing the questions with answers on social media well before the exams. One Dhaka school principal, who wished to stay anonymous, said they received the questions a day before and only shared them with teachers just before the exams.

Parents expressed their concerns in a Facebook group, saying that students were looking for leaked questions instead of studying. A 7th-grade student named Junaira heard about the leaks but didn't see the questions herself.

Professor Moshiuzzaman

assured that measures would be

taken to prevent future leaks, including ensuring that only head teachers access the questions. Any unauthorized access will be dealt with strictly.

Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury commented that knowing the questions in advance wouldn’t significantly affect the exams, as students still need to show their skills through activities. The new curriculum includes 65% written content and 35% activity-based assessments. The new curriculum is being gradually implemented and is expected to be fully in place by 2027.
