Former Awami League lawmaker Haji Mohammad Salim sent to jail on Wednesday after falling ill during his five-day remand in connection with the death of an 11th-grade student, Khalid Hasan Saifullah. The student tragically lost his life in Dhaka's Lalbagh area on July 18 amid the quota reform movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Akteruzzaman had placed Salim on remand on September 2. However, on Wednesday, the same court ordered his confinement in jail after Investigation Officer Akkas Miah, a sub-inspector at Lalbagh Police Station, reported that Salim had become ill during interrogation.
According to the forwarding report, Salim was brought in for questioning on Monday but fell ill the following day. He was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment in accordance with the Jail Code. The IO requested the court to keep Salim in jail until the investigation is completed, citing his medical condition and the necessity of further treatment.
Haji Salim was arrested from Dhaka's Bangshal area on Sunday night. His name was included in the FIR of the murder case filed by Kamrul Hasan, the father of Khalid Hasan, with Lalbagh Police Station on August 19. The case also names former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 51 others as accused.
