Bangladesh Railways website has been attacked by hackers after resumption of online ticket sales after five days suspensions.
As a result, ticket seekers facing trouble while attempting to purchase tickets from online. However, ticket sale at the counter through software remain normal. Railways’ new e-ticketing system has come to a standstill.
Shohoz-JV, a technology company that is responsible for building the ticketing system, said they have become the target of cyber attacks immediate after resuming online activities.
However, Railway authorities said that they had embarked on a new activity. Passengers need to keep a little patience. They are aiming to provide better services to their passengers, but this will take a few days more.
Bangladesh Railway Director General Dhirendra Nath Majumder told media, “Online ticket sales were closed for a few days due to technical reasons for the change of service provider. Online sales have resumed from Saturday as per previous rules, but sales may take some time to return to normal.”
When contacted Shohoz-JV Public Relations Manager Farhad Ahmed told Bangladesh Post, “Immediately after launching the online ticket sale activity we have noticed some unusual hitting on the website. From our primary findings we found the website browse has crossed more than one crore, our engineers have reported online cyber attacks. However, they are investigating whether the attack was carried out from inside or outside the country.”
However, ticket sale activity at the counter through software is continuing smoothly. In this regard, he said, “Within 21 days we have developed a new website for Bangladesh Railway. The problem is only causing at the website, but ticket sale using software at counters is operating smoothly. This software activated simultaneously at the 77 ticket counters of Bangladesh Railway on Friday.”
About 90,000 daily and about 27 lakh monthly tickets are issued through computers. About 50 percent of these tickets which is about 13 lakh, are being issued through online / mobile app. After CNS, Shohoz Limited will sell 50 percent of the total tickets through online.
