James Gunn, the writer and director of Marvel's upcoming ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’, reacts to the threat of riots if Rocket dies in the film. Gunn wrote and directed the first two ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ films. The first film put together a stellar cast, featuring Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, and Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket.
Still, general audiences weren't overly familiar with the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ outside of comic book fans. However, Gunn's humorous and heartwarming take on the characters helped make ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ a massive success while introducing them to a whole new generation of fans.
Gunn's ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ continued the trend by further endearing the oddball intergalactic crew to audiences. With each character being lovable in their own way, audiences began picking favorites. While there is a universal love for Groot's unique ability to emote through a limited vocabulary, Drax's matter-of-fact nature, and Star-Lord's humorous quips, Rocket has also found a home in most audiences' hearts.
Rocket gains sympathy in that he is a cybernetically and genetically enhanced raccoon that underwent horrific experiments. Still, he also holds his own as a wise-cracking, gun-totting member of the team. Now, with the third installment due for release in May 2023, passionate fans are making it clear that they don't want anything bad to happen to Rocket.
There has recently been a social media outcry from audiences stating that if Rocket dies in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’, riots will ensue. Gunn took to Twitter himself to comment on the impending threats with his unique sense of humor. Gunn references his last film, ‘The Suicide Squad’, by saying he received over 300 threats of riots for that film, which saw a large number of characters perish.
