Guardians demand 100pc sibling quota for admission to Ideal School & College

Parents are urging Ideal School and College to reserve 100pc of admissions for siblings and twin students starting from the 2025 academic year. Currently, only 5% of seats are reserved for siblings, but parents want this increased due to challenges like admission difficulties, financial strain, and the city’s heavy traffic.

Recently , parents from the Motijheel, Mugda, and Banashri branches submitted a memorandum to the education advisor, secretary, and other officials. Parent representative Shahadat Dhali voiced their concerns, saying the current quota is insufficient, and a 100% sibling quota would ease many burdens.

Parents highlighted that Dhaka’s traffic jams and busy lifestyles make it hard to manage multiple schools for different children. The financial strain and lack of enough good schools add to their difficulties. They believe that if siblings can attend the same school, it will reduce these challenges and allow students to focus better on their studies.

In response, an official from the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) said they had received the letter and would discuss it with the school’s governing body before making a decision.

According to the current private school admission policy, a 5% quota is reserved for siblings or twins, with a maximum of two children per couple. If applications exceed available seats, a digital lottery is used for selection. However, parents argue that increasing the sibling quota to 100% would ensure smoother admissions and better educational outcomes for their children.
