Ground nut harvesting is going on in full swing at all five upazilas of the district.
Farmers are very happy to see the bumper production and fair price of ground nut. About six mounds ground nut is coming from one Bigha land. Per mound ground nut is selling at Taka 4000 to Taka 4500 at local bazar.
The Department of Agriculture Extension(DAE) office sources said a total of 12,500 hectares of land has been brought under groundnut cultivation this year with the production target of 22,900 metric tons of ground nut.
The farmers of the district have cultivated high yielding groundnut in their lands.
Amjat Ali, a farmer of Taltola village under Debiganj upazila said, in last year, I cultivated groundnut on my one bigha land at a cost of TK 6,000. I have earned Tk 14,000 at that time.
He said, this year, I have cultivated groundnut on my five bighas of land and I got 27 mounds of ground nut after harvesting. I did not sell the ground nut as I came to know from the business men that the ground nut price will be increased within few weeks. So, I will sell the ground nut later.
I will get Taka about 90,000 by selling the ground nut after meeting all expenditure, it is my hope, he added.
Deputy Director of the DAE Md Abdul Motin told BSS that the farmers of the district are showing great interest to cultivate ground nut.
