A pitcher filled with grenades was found in Gazipur city's South Chhayabeethi area during excavation for a new construction project. Police responded to a 999 call around 9:30 AM on Monday.
Authorities have alerted Dhaka's bomb disposal unit, which are expected to arrive and assess the situation.
The landowner, Abul Kashem, was overseeing work on his 3.5 khata property, where workers uncovered an earthen pitcher containing the grenades while digging. Upon its accidental detonation during handling, work was halted immediately, and locals, along with the homeowner, notified the police.
Abul Kashem reported the incident to Gazipur Sadar Police Station after the initial emergency call.
Sadar Metro Police Station's Officer-in-Charge, Syed Rafiullah Karim, confirmed the discovery of grenade-like objects. As a precaution, the area has been cleared, and access restricted pending the bomb squad's investigation and decision on handling the objects.
