The ruling Bangladesh Awami League is going to hold its biggest ever organisational gathering, in recent months, its ‘Special Extended Meeting’ at the Prime Minister’s official residence Gonobhaban today (Sunday).
The main objective of the meeting is to convey a clear message to all levels of party leaders, from the top to the grassroots, regarding the upcoming 12th National Parliamentary elections.
According to sources, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the president of ruling Bangladesh Awami League, will address the leaders of different wings and units of the party and also all of the party’s affiliated and associate bodies.
At the meeting, the party chief would also hear the present situation of the party's condition at the grass root level and also discuss the solution of the existing problems.
The Prime Minister is also expected to give directives on how to deal with the anti-government movement by the opposition parties and also deal with the anti-state activities by the conspirators at home and abroad, said the sources in the party.
The Election Commission officials said that it is going to announce the election schedule next October and the election is expected to be held in the last week of the month of December this year.
Sources said since the election is getting closer, opposition parties and vested quarters have become active extensively against the government and the state as usual.
They want to destabilise the situation of the country and destroy democracy so that the upcoming national election is foiled and the state power is handed over to the unconstitutional forces, the sources said.
According to sources, considering the existing situation, the ‘Special Extended Meeting’ of the Awami League has been called at the Ganobhaban. The meeting will start at 10:30am.
A press release signed by AL Office Secretary Biplab Barua said that all the members of the national committee of the AL, all the leaders of its central executive committee, advisory council members, presidents and general secretaries of all the districts, cities, municipalities, upazilas and thana committees, all the party MPs, chairmen of Zilla Parishads and Upazila Parishad, Mayors elected from the AL and central presidents and general secretaries of the associate and affiliated bodies have been invited to take part in the meeting.
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader has asked the concerned leaders to participate in the meeting in time, added the release.
Bahauddin Nasim, a joint secretary of the AL, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to instruct the party's grass root level leaders and activists to take preparations for the upcoming national elections.
“Prime Minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, in her speech, will also instruct how to deal with the present situation and hold the next election peacefully”, he said.
Another source said that the Awami League is going to instruct the party leaders to strengthen the party’s activities so that opposition parties and vested quarters cannot not mislead or misguide the people of the country.
Following the meeting, the party will start holding meetings at the divisions, districts and at other strategic areas ahead of the national elections. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend those rallies in person.
The party leaders will also be instructed to keep the political field in their own hands and stay on the streets. The leaders will also be instructed to make the country people informed of the country’s development activities by the Awami League government and make them aware of the conspiracies by the BNP-Jamaat and other vested quarters.
