Graft case hearing against Falu adjourned till July 31

A Dhaka court has adjourned till July 31 the hearing in a graft case against BNP leader Mosaddeq Ali Falu.

Yesterday was fixed for recording the testimony of a new witness in the case. But no witnesses appeared to testify at Dhaka Special Judge Court-10. Allowing a time plea filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Judge Mohammad Nazrul Islam adjourned the hearing till July 31.

According to the case documents, following a notice from the ACC, Falu filed his wealth statement on March 1, 2007. The ACC in his probe after that found evidence of amassing an illegal wealth of Taka 45.66 crore by the BNP leader and concealing information of wealth of Taka 

10.60 crore.

The anti-graft body filed the case with the capital's Motijheel Police Station on July 8, 2007. ACC assistant director Jahangir Alam filed the charge sheet on February 14, 2008.

After the charge sheet, Falu pleaded with the High Court to stay the case proceedings. Allowing the plea, the High Court stayed the proceedings, which was eventually scrapped. On August 27, 2018, the lower court concerned framed charges against Falu while he was on the run.
