Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the government is confident of resuming the direct flight operation to Dhaka-New York route which remained suspended since 2006.
She said this in response to a question of Sharif Shahab Uddin, the Editor-in-Chief of national English daily the Bangladesh Post, during a press briefing on her attending the 76th UNGA session on Monday.
"Our government is working to restore the flight operation between Bangladesh and the United States of America (USA). We will be able to give good news to the country's people of this route when normalcy resumes following the worldwide ongoing Covid-19 pandemic”, she added.
Sheikh Hasina said that everyone, especially the journalists of the country, knows how the BNP people had destroyed the aviation sector through their unmindful corruptions and irregularities. Awami League government have been trying hard and soul to heel the wound of this sector and to make the aviation sector a world class one.

"The aviation sector, which was almost fully damaged by the BNP government, is now getting back to its glory. We have added latest aircrafts to our fleet which are capable to fly longer routes. It will not very difficult to restore the routes," added the premier.
