Govt working to build sustainable public procurement ecosystem

Experts tell workshop on BPPA, e-GP

In a move to build Smart Bangladesh, the government is relentlessly working to establish a sustainable public procurement ecosystem in the country through a fully digitized platform.

As part that, it has constituted the Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority (BPPA) to effectively oversee overall procurement management by ensuring proper implementation of electronic Government Procurement (e-GP).

Md. Aknur Rahman, Ph.D., Director (Joint Secretary), BPPA said this while addressing aworkshop on ‘BPPA’s functions and e-GP; as the chief guest at the Circuit House conference room inTangail on Thursday (May 09, 2024).

Afroza Parvin, Deputy Director, BPPA, IMED, was present at the workshop as special guest. Md. Kaisarul Islam, Deputy Commissioner, Tangail, chaired the programme.

BPPA under the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) of the Ministry of Planning, Government of Bangladeshorganized the workshop to ensure active participation of all stakeholders in ensuring sustainable development in the country through transparency in the public procurement system.

The workshop was organized under the Digitizing Implementation Monitoring and Public Procurement Project (DIMAPP) of BPPA with the support of Bangladesh Center for Communication Program (BCCP).

Meher Afroz, Deputy Director, and Md. Abdus Salam, Assistant Director, BCCP were present at the session.

Mentioning various new features added to the e-GP system, Md. Aknur Rahman said the country’s public procurement system has now been fully digitized with inclusion of these new modules aiming at ensuring the best use of people's money.

A large number of participants including representatives from the procuring entities, tenderers and journalists attended the workshop.
