‘Govt working to accelerate economic development’

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun has said that the government is making relentless efforts to accelerate the pace of economic development by increasing productivity in all sectors of the economy, including agriculture.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting titled “Irresistible Progress in Productivity” organized on the occasion of National Productivity Day 2021 at the conference room of the Ministry of Industries, joining virtually on Saturday.

He said that national economic growth is not only dependent on the contribution of a particular sector and requires the overall progress and contribution of all sectors of the national economy. 

“The benefits of productivity are not enjoyed solely by the producer alone. Its benefits are equally enjoyed by all members of society, including government, employers, workers and consumers. Therefore, the spontaneous participation and commitment of all members of the society is essential to enjoy its benefits. And the only way to ensure this overall commitment and participation is to transform the productivity development program into a national movement,” said the minister. 

Regarding the country lagging behind in productivity, the minister said that in order to get out of this situation quickly, the systematic and continuous productivity enhancement programs of national economies including agriculture, industry, service providers, banks and financial institutions, business and commerce, office courts, educational institutions, medical centers, hospitals etc has to be strengthened.  

State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder was present during the meeting chaired by Industry Secretary Zakia Sultana.

Kamal Ahmed Majumder said that in order to maintain continuity in the development of the overall economy of Bangladesh, extensive practice of policy strategies in the development of productivity is essential. 

“Sustainable development will not be possible otherwise. Therefore, in order to develop productivity, importance should be given to modern technical training, seminars, new techniques and innovative programs,” he said. Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industry Md Golam Yahya and newly appointed Director General (Additional Secretary) of the National Productivity Organization (NPO) Mezbah-ul-Alam also spoke during the event. 

NPO Director and Joint Secretary (Administration) of the Ministry of Industries Faizur Rahman Faruqui delivered welcome speeches at the event. 

Senior officials of the Ministry of Industries were present during the meeting.
