The present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly for the welfare of journalists and now journalists’ community in our country are enjoying freedom of press.
Hasan Zahid Tushar, Deputy Press Secretary to PM, came up with the observation as the chief guest at a views-exchange meeting on ‘Freedom of Press and Code of Conduct of Media Men’ at Netrakona Press Club on Saturday.
Presided over by Advocate Abdul Hannan Ranjan, vice-president of the Press club, the discussion was attended by MP Habiba Rahman Khan Shefali as special guest.
Among others, the views-exchange meeting was addressed by senior journalist and freedom fighter Haider Jahan Chowdhury, senior journalist and press club secretary Babu Shymolendu Paul, Jugantor correspondent Mahabubul Kibria Chowdhury Halim, BSS correspondent Faqrul Haq, Inqilab Correspondent AKM Abdullah and NTV correspondent Bhajan Das.
Tushar said, “The present government believes in freedom of press. But it does not either support or believe in yellow journalism. The government always extends cooperation to the media men so that they could discharge their professional duties independently.”
MP Shefali urged the local journalists to write extensively against the burning problems of society including drug abuses, corruption and irregularities of government offices and dishonest officials.
, misappropriation of government money, terrorism and militancy, to ensure peace and security in the society.
