Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim said, “The government will wholeheartedly adopt environmentally friendly technologies and other processes in the livestock sector. In this case, the cooperation of the World Bank and other development partners is needed to accustom the general public to technology and create awareness in the long run. The people of Bangladesh will welcome any technological development in the livestock sector and they will use that technology.”
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a workshop titled 'Clean and Energy Efficient Cooling for Livestock Supply Chain in Bangladesh' jointly organized by the Department of Livestock and the World Bank at a hotel in the capital on Sunday.
At that time, he said, Bangladesh is moving forward dynamically. Radical changes are taking place in every sector of the country. In particular, the revolutionary changes in the fisheries and livestock sector have come to the notice of the world. Our achievements in this sector are remarkable in comparison with many countries of the world including neighboring countries. For this reason, many international organizations, including the World Bank, are expanding cooperation in this sector. Due to the sincere efforts of the local experts and the contribution of the common people, self-sufficiency has already been achieved in various fields in this sector.
He further said that the development of Bangladesh has attracted the attention of the international community. Now Bangladesh is a role model of development in the world. The Prime Minister of Bangladesh is called the magician of development. Now: Not just development but sustainable development is needed. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government are working tirelessly for sustainable and environmentally friendly development.
The Minister further said that climate change and other natural calamities have caused extensive damage in Bangladesh. But we are not responsible for climate change. While there is nothing wrong with us, we are suffering from climate change. For this reason, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the latest International Climate Conference has put forward specific proposals to address the effects of climate change and rehabilitate and assist the affected countries.
The Minister further added that the present government and the country's technical experts have been working tirelessly for the development of the livestock sector. In this connection, formation of Poultry and Dairy Development Board and formation of other concerned authorities and enactment of related laws are under process. The government will meet all the necessary requirements for the real development of this sector.
Mentioning that the world has now become a global village, the Minister further said that the welfare of all in the world must be ensured in a coordinated manner. It is not possible to bring prosperity to all the people of the earth by developing one country and leaving another underdeveloped. Scientists in the fisheries and livestock sectors of Bangladesh have been able to show remarkable success in their research and other fields. We want to spread the development process to the marginal stage without limiting it to a limited stage. If technology cannot be spread at the marginal level, it will not be of any use. The government's livestock and dairy development project is making a significant contribution in this regard.
Director General of the Department of Livestock Dr. Manzoor Mohammad Shahzad presided over the workshop as a special guest was present Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock. Muhammad Yamin Chowdhury. Welcoming remarks were made by the Director of the Livestock and Dairy Development Project of the Department of Livestock. Abdur Rahim. World Bank consultant Siddika Bhuiyan Mishu presented the keynote address at the workshop.
