Industries Secretary Zakia Sultana said the government will set up two more CETPs in Dhaka and one in Chattogram in a bid to proper and environment-friendly preservation of hide. "Every year around one crore animals are slaughtered during the eid-ul-adha while another one crore animals are slaughtered round the year across the country, so it needs more Centrally Effluent Treatment Plants (CETP) for perfect preservation and maintaining the quality of total 2 crore hides", said Zakia Sultana.
She made the remarks while talking to newsmen during her visit to the BSCIC Tannery Industrial Park at Hemayetpur in Savar on Tuesday. “Leather conservation management has become more environmentally friendly this year than any time in the past. This has been possible due to the task force, formed to making recommendations and action plans for the development of the leather industry and the close monitoring and supervision of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce”, she added.
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, She visited the Tannery park to watch whether the directives of the task force committee regarding leather conservation management and leather industry coming from all over the country are being properly followed.
