Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif on Monday said the government is taking up stern actions if allegation of corruption is found against anyone.
He said this while talking to journalists before joining a workshop at Kusthia District Shilpakala Academy auditorium in the town.
Hanif said there is no scope to raise allegation against the government sweepingly over the issue of fleeing the country by ex-Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed as the head of the government has already announced zero tolerance policy against corruption.
"As per the policy, the government is taking steps if allegation of corruption is found against anyone," he said.
Turning to corruption taken place during BNP's tenure, the AL joint general secretary said BNP had looted public money through Hawa Bhaban while staying in state power.
BNP is now out to spread rumors against the government to hide their misdeeds, he said.
The people know how "Aziz-type" Election Commission was formed during BNP regime, he said.
Making criticism over current Election Commission doesn't go with BNP, he said. Hanif said BNP had carried out looting across the country through establishing Hawa Bhaban from 2001 to 2006. He said BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia is a convict on graft charges and her son BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman is fugitive convict on corruption charges.
As the BNP's top leaders are convict in graft cases, making comments against corruption doesn't go with the party, he said.
Kushtia-4 lawmaker Abdur Rouf, Kushtia-2 lawmaker Kamarul Arefin and Kushtia-4 lawmaker Rezaul Haque Chowdhury were present, among others.
