BFTI, BRACU sign MoU for conducting PGD on international trade

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Sunday stressed to overcome the upcoming trade-related challenges and to meet the demand for skilled trade professionals. 

Minister said the government has taken proactive steps to prepare the country for a 'graduation with momentum' and a ‘smooth transition' into a new economic environment. 

Minister was addressing an MoU signing ceremony, held between Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute (BFTI) and BRAC Business School, BRAC University for initiating the academic courses on international trade and business at the conference room of BFTI .

Tipu Munshi appreciated BFTI and BRAC University for initiating joint educational courses (Post Graduate Diploma, thereafter Masters), training programmes, research on trade, investment and business.

He believed that collaboration between BFTI and BRAC University would ensure quality education and contribute to building skilled manpower in the area of international trade & business in Bangladesh.

TapanKanti Ghosh, Secretary, Ministry of Commerce remained present as the special guest while Tamara Hasan Abed, Chairperson, Board of Trustees, BRAC University attended the event as the guest of honour. Under this MoU, the institutions will conduct joint educational courses like Post Graduate Diploma and Master’s Certificate Programmes and Management Development Programmes.

Dr. Md. Jafar Uddin, CEO, BFTI and Professor Dr. Vincent Chang, Vice Chancellor, BRAC University signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.

In the welcome speech, Dr. Md. Jafar Uddin urged that the proposed PGD on International Trade & Business would provide a cutting-edge business education to the policy makers, businessmen, and university graduates to upgrade their knowledge and skills on international trade.  

Dr. Vincent Chang, Vice-Chancellor, BRAC University emphasized that the initiative would add great momentum in enhancing capacity development on trade and trade-related/ issues.  

Tapan Kanti Ghosh, while addressing, expressed his expectation that BFTI would play its role, as a prominent think-tank for Centre of Excellence on Trade and Commerce. 

He said the proposed BFTI’s Postgraduate diploma (PGD) will provide trade professionals a comprehensive introduction to practical aspects of international trade and business. 

Tamara Hasan Abed, Chairperson, Board of Trustees, BRAC University urged that the proposed Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) on International Trade & Business would provide trade professionals, business leaders and policy makers a comprehensive introduction to practical aspects and implications of the international trade. 

EPB Vice-Chairman AHM Ahsan, Additional Secretaries of the Ministry of Commerce Maleka Khairunnesa, Md. Hafizur Rahman, Md. Hafizur Rahman, Md. MonsurAlam participated in the event. 

Bablu Kumar Saha, Director General, Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection, Sheikh Shoebul Alam, Registrar, Office of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms and Brigadier General Md. Ariful Hassan, Chairman, TCB representatives from BRAC University and official of BFTI attended the MoU signing ceremony among others.
