Government secondary schools will now admit no more than 55 students per class. This rule applies to all classes up to Class IX, based on available vacancies.
The Ministry of Education announced this policy on Wednesday. According to the guidelines, students aged 6 and older should be admitted in accordance with the National Education Policy (2010). The minimum age for admission is set at 5 years as of January 1, while the maximum age is 7 years as of December 31 of the academic year. For instance, for the 2025 academic year, students must be born between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2020.
To verify age, parents must submit an attested copy of the online birth registration certificate with the admission application. Students with special needs may receive an additional age allowance of up to 5 years.
The academic year will run from January 1 to December 31. To oversee the admission process, the Dhaka Metropolitan Admission Committee has been established under the leadership of the Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education.
Students can apply to a maximum of five government secondary schools. If applying to a double-shift school, each shift counts as a separate choice. A digital lottery will determine admissions, with details about the application fee and lottery date to be announced centrally.
