With a rise in share trading, the revenue earning of the government from the country's main stock exchange, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), doubled in September this year compared to that in September last year.
Revenue from the DSE in the outgoing September was Tk 52.35 crore, which was Tk 27.48 crore in the same period of the previous year, according to the DSE.
Investors have been active in upward capital markets over the last few months. More new investors are also investing in the market. There has been a rise in buying and selling of shares, a National Board of Revenue (NBR) official said.
This has increased the transaction, said market insider.
According to the DSE, 50,707.49 crore shares of investors and entrepreneur-managers were traded in September this year. From there, the total revenue of the government has stood at Tk 52 crore 35 thousand 328.
Of this, the income of the investors from the share transaction has stood at Tk 50 crore 70 lakh 52 thousand 497. The revenue from the sale of shares of entrepreneurs-managers came to Tk 1 crore 29 lakh 82 thousand 830.
Just one year ago, the government's revenue from DSE was Tk 27 crore 48 lakh 45 thousand 421. Of this, Tk 22 crore 25 lakh 61 thousand 502 was earned from the sale of shares of investors, and Tk 5 crore 22 lakh 83 thousand 919, from the sale of shares of entrepreneurs-managers.
In August this year, the revenue income was Tk 50 crore 21 lakh 85 thousand 47. In August, the transaction of share was 45 thousand 118 crore 69 lakh. This is DSE's new record in monthly transactions and revenue.
The index has set a record as well as increased transactions in the outgoing month. The rise in share prices of indices and most companies has also created a new history in market capitalization. And in September, the capital of new investors increased by Tk 23,000 crore.
On the last working day of August, the market capitalization of DSE was Tk 5 lakh 57 thousand 972 crore 33 lakh 17 thousand.
On the last working day of September, the market capitalization stood at Tk 5 lakh 81 thousand 543 crore 12 lakh 29 thousand.
