The government is planning to make Bangladesh Cyber Security Service a providing hub for the world.
Keeping this in mind it is now moving towards achieving the cyber security capabilities, according to the Ministry of Information and Technology and Cyber Crime Security Unit sources.
On the condition of anonymity, an official of the ICT department told this reporter, “With the rise of cyber crime, cyber capabilities have also increased in the country. The digital Bangladesh that has developed in the last 12 years is not limited to providing services, internet connection and freelancing.
The young generation is also being formed on important issues like cyber security”.
“This cyber drill has proved how capable Bangladesh is in the field of cyber security. Bangladesh has risen from 73rd to 65th in the National Cyber Security Index. This year, the index has improved by eight notches, which is also on the way to be considered as a role model for the technological development of Digital Bangladesh”, he added.
Considering the increasing cyber crime threats and insecurity in the social, economic, and political arenas across the country, extensive development activities have been undertaken to achieve the capabilities in cyber security field as well as develop the digital Bangladesh.
At the stage of achieving this goal, Bangladesh has now been able to move up from the 73rd position to the 65th position in the Global Cyber Security Index. Plans have been made to create 1,000 cyber security experts in the country.
To ensure cyber security stability among different departments in the face of several threats, creating cyber security experts is now the demand of time. The country's banking, health, civil aviation and other sectors are facing security threats. By creating personnel in cyber security from the talented youth, the country will also be able to contribute to the world.
There will be new employment. Foreign exchange earnings will increase. Cyber experts will be created to contribute to the UN mission. Bangladesh will play a leading role in keeping the world cyber risk-free in the future. The Security Service Providing Hub is being set up with such a plan.
According to a research report by the Cyber Crime Awareness Foundation (CCA Foundation), cybercrime is on the rise among internet users across the country. Violent extremism, rumors, political propaganda, false news, gang culture, suicide, pornography, cyber bullying, fraud, extortion, piracy, addiction, etc. are happening through this type of technology.
Crimes that happen in real life are now shifting to digital. According to age-based analysis of the survey, most victims are between the ages of 18 and 30. Children are in second place among the victims in the statistics. The rate of victims under the age of 18 is 11.16 percent. 68 percent of women are victims of cyber crime. A large part of the victims of crime do not complain.
The CCA Foundation survey further showed that crime is being committed in 11 stages among the technology users of the country. All four of these are new types of crime. According to a survey conducted among the victims at the individual level, the highest number of cyber crimes in the country is threatening by texting. Added to this are copyright infringement, fraud in selling products online, and fraud in getting things done online.
Director of National Data Centre and project director of BGD e-GOV CIRT, Tarique M Barkatullah earlier said, “Use of technology is increasing in almost all sectors where Security risks are also increasing. Millions of users are in the face of cyber-attack threats. For this reason, to increase cybersecurity, companies are now increasing their investment and are also hiring skilled workers in this regard”.
“The demand for skilled workers in this sector has increased. But there are no skilled workers as per the demand. To increase the number of skilled workers in this sector, the Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT) has taken the initiative to create skilled cyber security experts”, he added.
