The government on Tuesday honoured 654 valiant women freedom fighters (FFs) for their outstanding contribution to the country's Liberation War marking Bangladesh's golden jubilee of independence.
Women and Children Affairs Ministry organised a programme to give honor to the women freedom fighters at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital and all Deputy Commissioner (DC) offices across the country in the morning.
The women freedom fighters were given crests, uttorio (scarf), share and souvenir on the occasion.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque attended the programme as the chief guest with State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira in the chair.
Women and Children Affairs Ministry's Secretary Dr Md Anwar Hossain Howlader attended at the venue while all deputy commissioners joined it virtually from their respective offices.
A total of 65 valiant women freedom fighters were given honor in the capital while other freedom fighters of different districts were honored at their respective deputy commissioner's office.
Speaking on the occasion, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said the government will build houses titled 'Bir Nibas' for all Biranganas.
He said valiant freedom fighters are now getting medical services, including medicines and test farcicalities, free of cost at hospitals across the country.
Mozammel Haque said military ruler Ziaur Rahman had built Shishu Park at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan where Pakistani occupational forces surrendered to the allied forces during the Liberation War with a view to make the people forget the true history.
"We want to conserve the specific spot in the history Suhrawardy Udyan as the breeding ground the Liberation War as the people can know the history of the Liberation after going there," he said.
Besides, if any freedom fighters pass away, they will be buried in identical graves, so people can easily identify those as graves of freedom fighters.
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira said from the very beginning of the Liberation War, women freedom fighters remained as bright examples in the history of the war for their direct participation, sacrifice and support to the freedom fighters.
Mentioning that women freedom fighters have huge sacrifice in the Liberation War, she said the mothers had sent their sons in the battle even they know that their sons could have died in the battle.
Theme song of Mujib Barsho and a poem along with songs (Gitialekhyo) on glorious and struggling lives of women freedom fighters were presented in the function.
